Vitamin D

We have been told time and again that vitamin D, an immune enhancer, is essential to good health. So let the sun shine in!

Some Benefits of Vitamin D

Research has shown vitamin D appears to play an important role in the prevention of diseases, such as:

  • breast cancer
  • colon cancer
  • prostate cancer
  • chronic fatigue
  • decline in cognitive function
  • depression
  • diabetes
  • hypertension
  • multiple sclerosis
  • osteoporosis
  • rheumatoid arthritis

There are also studies which have shown that Vitamin D increases the survival rate in people who suffer from malignant melanomas, a type of skin cancer.

Cholecalciferol

Cholecalciferol, a form of vitamin D found naturally in fish-liver oils (vitamin D3) and egg yolks, is also the particular kind of vitamin D that’s formed by the action of sunlight, when our skin is exposed to the sun.

O.k, it’s settled. It’s common knowledge that we get vitamin D from the sun and certain foods. The challenge is, there are myriad influences that impact our body’s ability to produce enough vitamin D from the sun, such as the:

  • angle of sunrays
  • season of the year
  • time of day
  • body’s age
  • use of proper sunscreen
  • individual’s pigmentation

Other Sources of Vitamin D

Just as importantly, we can receive important sources of vitamin D from several sources such as oily fish, like salmon, sardines and mackerel. We can also benefit from drinking fortified orange juice and dairy products.

The Challenge

So even though it is established that we all need vitamin D, not everyone is alike. While soaking in the rays from the sun for equal amounts of time, our individual body’s consumption levels will be different.

Why? We all have different sensitivities to the sun’s rays. A darker skinned person may be able to absorb more exposure than a lighter skinned person with less harmful effects.

Even if we eat the recommended amounts of fish or juices, the nutrients in that food may be lacking. We just cannot know how much fish or how many oranges to eat to acquire sufficient levels of vitamin D.

The Solution

There is, however, a method of avoiding deficiencies due to an incorrect diet or lack of sufficient sun. That would be to fortify our diets with a nutritional supplement.

In part 1 my friend had me on the ropes or so he thought.

I asked, “What did you have for breakfast this morning?” His response came slowly . . . “The usual, a double mocha latte. He quickly added, ” I needed a pick-me-up,  but I was in a hurry.”

.

Double Mocha Latte . . . Mmmm!

Ummm . . . Scrumptious!

.

I said, ” So you let ‘if and but’ get in the way of your body receiving proper nutrition. You start your conversation off with ‘If I eat a balanced meal’ and ended with, “but I was in a hurry.”

I continued. “How many fish did you catch before breakfast? Did you tend your garden this morning?

Was that a “trap door closing” look on his face.

Tasting victory, I asked, “So that’s one meal missed. What do you do now, eat twice as much of the right food groups for lunch? You and I both know that’s not gonna happen.” He chuckled. I had him.

“Dude,” I said, “I was in a hurry as well, but I take one minute to sip an ounce of liquid multivitamin everyday and my body receives all of the essential nutrients it needs for that day. Takes less than a minute. It’s almost too easy.”

.

GBG Flyer 10 in One

.

“Yeah, but your vitamin would cost me money every day!”

“Well you said you ordered the ‘usual.’ What did that double mocha latte with a twist of whatever cost you? And not only in dollars and cents. What’s all that sugar doing to your system on a daily basis? Should I go on? I’ll choose the liquid vitamin every time.”

Clang! Went the trap door.

.

Consider My Case Rested

We all could go without supplements if the foods we ate were whole, packed with nutrition, inexpensive, plentiful, easy to prepare and convenient.

But instead, the foods we consume are processed, fortified and sprayed with colorization. (why do you think that apple is so red?)

.

Back to the study

After eight weeks the participants in the study had their nutrient levels examined.

The participants who were given the multivitamin and not the placebo, including those who had indicated they were already eating folic fortified food, had much higher levels of many of our body’s  essential nutrients.

.

So What’s My Conclusion?

For us baby boomers, even if we strive to eat the best foods, the use of a daily multivitamin can only help us maintain optimal nutritional levels.

I’ve been taking a multivitamin daily for about two years now. Maybe it’s the vitamin or maybe it’s the fact that I feel pretty good all the time that people notice my energy level remains high.

I’m telling you, life is good if we let it be. If we feel good, it shows. People notice the difference. If our bodies receive the essential nutrients every day, we probably feel good.

.

GBG

.

As an Analogy:

Why is the term “ran out of gas” applied to so many different situations where people come up short? Because everybody knows what that means. A marathoner runs 24.5 miles in a few hours and drops to the ground less than half a mile from the finish line. Why? He ran out of (essential nutrients) gas.

Why do some people need “pick me ups” in the middle of their work-day? Chocolate bar, energy drink of choice; Their body “ran out of gas.” They lacked proper nutrient levels.

.

Whipped!

.

We Boomers  Need to “Get Back to Zero.”

That’s my reference  to taking the right multivitamin and mineral supplement that will shore up our systems.

It’s simple. Our bodies need a finite amount of essential nutrients daily (like a car needs gas) to perform at optimal levels. Our daily activities drain what nutrients we have stored up.

With the foods we eat lacking in proper nutrition, we start off below zero and work our way down.

.

In conclusion

I say, “take a sip of a good multivitamin every day, and get yourself back to zero.”

.

Happ days are here again!

Hey Boomers! We’re now considered “older.” Can you believe it? Seems like just yesterday we were . . . 20, 30, 40, or was it 50? Hmmm, memory fades with age.

.

But That Was Then

Today I’m writing about nutritional needs for our ageing bodies. Younger generations could benefit from this information too. After all if you start young and maintain a healthy regimen, good habits alone will carry you for decades.

So check this out. There was a clinical study recently that observed Baby Boomers and older adults who had been given either a multivitamin or a placebo, daily, for a total of eight weeks.

.

Placebo Please1

Will the Real Multi-Vitamin Please Stand Up . . .

.

The study was geared to determine the effects of multivitamins on the nutritional status of older adults. Baby Boomers come to mind, because I am one.

Many boomers feel that if we “eat right” we don’t really need to add the expense of a multivitamin or mineral to our diets. Been there, heard that.

.

An Apple a Day

I had the “Apple a Day . . .” debate with my very good, very skeptical friend last week. We debate a lot.

He has issues with network marketing companies, so every chance he gets he will corner me about my products.

During our conversation he mentioned several times how he felt too exhausted after work to study for exams, etc.

.

Chillin

.

Usually when I hear certain words it triggers memories, so when he said the word exhausted, I thought of the benefits of the multivitamin that I market and sell. Naturally I mentioned it.

It’s like he was baiting the trap for me to mention my product.

.

He Leaped

His premise was, “That’s what I’m talking about. I knew you were going to bring up your vitamin, but it’s like this. If at every meal, I eat a balanced diet of fruits, grains, vegetables, lean beef, and fish etc., I don’t need to spend my hard earned cash on your vitamin. I can grow my own vegetables, catch the fish myself, and so on.” His conversation was peppered with statistics and words like essential nutrients, folic acid, etc.

.

Fruits and Veggies

.

He then leaned back in his chair, assured of a verbal victory. I was grinning, because he was absolutely right! It’s possible to eat the correct amount of nutritional sustenance, but man!, is it time consuming. And secondly, yes, I did bring up my vitamin.

Hey there, here’s a Network Marketing No-No. “My product is good for you.” But I’m not supposed to say that right away. It’s too Salesy…too up front.

I am a Blogger; an Internet Marketer and yes, I am opinionated. I’m not at all comfortable with high pressure sales techniques. When people come to me using “techniques,” I cringe.

I write about enhancing our health naturally; specifically by maintaining a healthy (for you) diet, adding natural supplements, getting sufficient exercise and rest. Those are the basics. So easy to do, it’s easy not to do.

But today, I am writing about Doing The Right Thing in Internet Marketing. Personally I find it quite difficult to do the “right thing.”

What’s the Right Thing?

According to many ‘Gurus’ we marketers must strive to:

  • Reel the reader (prospect) in slowly
  • Don’t answer their questions right away about what we’re selling
  • Inundate the reader with “free” information in order to entice them to opt-in

Once they opt-in, give them even more ‘free’ information while attaching our ‘offer’ on the back end; kind of like lulling them in.

I don’t have a clue why online marketing and sales has to be this way. At this stage of my life I don’t enjoy being “reeled in” and I enjoy even less holding the rod and doing the reeling.

Why can’t we just be truthful?

My ex-mentor informed me that it is a numbers game; that we must continually “reel in many fish to get to the keepers.” He says I will regret being up front about the facts and the cost. That is why he is my ‘ex’ mentor.

I will admit, he’s been half-right. Some people have taken advantage of my good nature. But I would choose not to establish a relationship with them anyway, and we parted ways.

My thinking is the opposite; Be honest. Tell me what you are selling, and what it costs; let me make my own decision after I review the facts. If I want “in” I’ll bite. If not, I won’t waste your time or mine. What a concept!

My articles offer great information concerning improving health naturally, but I will sometimes let you know about credible products that I sell as well.

Why? Because they work! At least they worked for me.

Case in Point:

Would you like to feel better than you thought possible and improve your health along the way, all at no financial risk? Sounds like hype right?

Sounded like hype to me too, because I’m a huge skeptic, but I’m glad I gave it a shot, because people comment often about how much energy I have. I can’t help but smile and say, “Yeah, you’re right.”

Want to know my ‘Secret.’

It’s simple, I take one capful of GBG Ten-In-One™ Liquid Multi-Formula every day.

I’ve been an affiliate of GBG, and had my first sip of GBG Ten-In-One™ Liquid Multi-Vitamin in April of 2008.

Taking the vitamin is so easy and convenient, (drink just one cap-full a day) that I have not missed taking my vitamin more than a total of ten days since then. And when I missed a day, I thought about it at least five times that same day, just got lazy or something.

l guarantee you when I was taking the tablet-form of vitamin, I was not as consistent. The consistency alone has to contribute to my feeling better than I have in years. And the added benefit of losing pounds doesn’t hurt either.

I weighed 260 pounds when I took my first drink; Within 90 days I lost 25 pounds; The weight has not come back many months later. That’s my story.

So give it a shot

Here’s my affiliate link. I’m sure if you try GBG Ten-In-One™ Liquid Multi-Vitamin, you will feel a difference. But like pitchman Billy Mays might have said, ”But wait, there’s more, here’s the best part …”

I mentioned earlier that you would have no financial risk.

If you don’t feel that GBG Ten-In-One™ Liquid Multi-Vitamin has been beneficial to your health, you have 60 days to return the empty bottle for a refund of $29.95. What can you lose, with the exception of maybe a few pounds . . .?

So What’s The Problem?

For starters, unhealthy diets are the problem. We know big juicy, greasy, cheeseburgers, hamburgers French-fries etc., taste great and we know intellectually that they are not ‘good’ for our overall health.

But we cram them down and finish them off with a big slug of sugar, known affectionately as ‘soft’ drinks. I guess they’re ‘soft’ because they go down easily.

We know from research that if we apply the ‘Slight Edge’ theory taught by Jeff Olson, over the years there is a good chance that we might clog an artery or two with our choice of diet.

The Solution: Simple, but Hard to Do

Daily exercise and consuming balanced portions of fresh fruit, vegetables and fish is the key to a healthy diet; simple, but hard to do. And I am willing to wager someone out there can show me, backed by statistics, why fresh fruits and vegetables are not good for us. Their opinion, their right.

About Me

I am a 60 year young, Baby Boomer, lived an active lifestyle in California, retired after a 30+ year career and moved east. After retiring it became clear I would need extra income.  I moved to the rural south and opened a retail business. Oops! Wrong idea!

Stress Made Me Do It

With a few years of business challenges, lack of exercise, less than stellar eating habits and poor nutrition, I was not in the best physical condition.  I was stressed!

I had invested my life in activities like weight training, baseball, running, racquetball, skating … something all the time.

Suddenly, overnight, actually it was after 3 years of Slight Edge inactivity, I gained 35 pounds; none of it muscle.

What finally got my attention was I went back to ‘Cali’ for a visit and my friends kept telling me I looked ‘good’, ’settled’ and worst of all … ‘healthy’.

Ouch! I had run from looking ‘healthy’ since I was 16.  An uncle had drilled it into me that if someone said I looked ‘healthy’, I was overweight … by a lot.

Wake-up Call

After all of the well-meaning compliments I knew I had to do something.

Having been athletic my answer was simple. I needed to get back to exercising, cut down calories, eat the proper food groups and augment my diet with vitamins and supplements; Simple, but hard to do.

It is now 10 months later. I’ve lost over 35 pounds.  (was up to 40, but got cocky)

Now clothes that were destined for charity fit again, and I’m having pants taken in at the waist. I feel great!

My vitamin of choice: GBG Liquid Vitamins.

One cap-full meets my daily nutritional needs, curbs afternoon snack attacks and has substantially increased my energy.

I don’t always sleep 8 hours but still wake up energized.  My higher energy level lasts all day, not like some of the ‘instant’ energy drinks where I zoom up and careen back down within an hour.

An added benefit is more focus and concentration, specifically on my business.

That in a nutshell is why I am passionate about and share the benefits of GBG with my entire family.  We know it is important to eat a healthy diet and exercise, but life gets in the way of living.

That is why I choose to balance my diet with supplements.

But that is my opinion and my right.

Opinions Are Like (A… fill in the blank …S) Every-Body Has One

And I am no different.

Today I’m writing about why I take vitamins. I’m going to journal the next year or so about becoming healthier through nutrition, exercise, rest and whatever else comes up that works for me.

A CreateVitality Newsletter subscriber sent me an article a few days ago that almost ticked me off … almost.

Then I remembered a few words of wisdom a friend at work blessed me with over 25 years ago.

As usual I was going on, probably railing, about the latest discoveries in my book of the moment; discoveries that were going to ’set me free financially’. She constantly made it clear that she had absolutely no desire to be ’set free.’

But since she was in the cubicle next to mine she was a captive audience with no way to escape.

There’s no doubt in my mind that my conversation was an attempt on my part to ‘convince’ her to come over to my way of thinking. For months I had accosted her with every single method to wealth and riches that had come to my attention.

At last I finally wore her down because she sighed. That was my interpretation.

As I opened my mouth to ramp it up again, she sighed again and said something that was so profound it gave me entry into the minds of many.

She taught me in a few words that what I thought was great wasn’t necessarily meaningful to everyone within earshot.

Exasperated, she said, “Dammit Dillon! There’s a book written for every $@%!#& who knows how to read!”

Ouch! I was stunned into silence … just what she no doubt desired. That day I learned a lesson. Everyone has an opinion and it is their right.

Having said all that, in the article I received Monday the author went on and on, with statistics to back up his opinion, about how nutritional supplements are useless; a waste of time and money. And for him that’s cool.

Of course, I beg to differ and I am going strictly on how I feel after using a liquid multi-vitamin for the past 10 months.

This is Not a Sales Pitch

Most people consider the preceding statement the beginning of an elaborate sales pitch, geared toward stripping their wallets of content. Well, it’s not.

I don’t really need tell you what you already know; how we all need the proper mix of vitamins and nutrients to live a healthy life style; because we’ve been constantly bombarded with that information forever.

If you decide to take vitamins or supplements, mine or someone else’s, it won’t be because you read one article. It will be because you did your research and found what works best for you, like I did. It may not even be vitamins and supplements, but that is why we research.

Why Do I take Vitamins?

Just as the author had his ‘proof’ that supplements are useless, there are many legitimate, scientific reasons why you should consider adding vitamins as a supplement to your normal diet; the proverbial ‘book for everyone.’

But that is not why I take vitamins and supplements. I take vitamins because since I began this regimen 10 months ago, I have lost 35 pounds; I have much more energy; I’m more alert; I have Vitality!

In any event I go by how I feel and I feel great. That being said I will tell you in the next article why I choose GBG Liquid Multi-Vitamins.
